Police investigating after home shot at on First Street

ITHACA, NY Ithaca Police are investigating after occupants of a home in the 200 block of First Street came home to find a bullet hole in their house on July 25. Police were called at 7:52 p.m. by one of the residents who told officers the occupants had left their home approximately one hour prior and returned to find a bullet hole through the wood frame of their window. Police did confirm that a bullet travelled into the resident.  Any witnesses in the area between 6:52 p.m. and 7:52 p.m. in the area of 200 First St. on July 25 should call the Ithaca Police Department. Police are also asking residents in the area to review any surveillance or doorbell cameras they have that face the roadway and report anything that might be related to the incident.

Man injured in attempted robbery on W State St

ITHACA, NY Ithaca Police responded to the 300 block of West State Street at around 2:30 a.m. on July 17. A man said he was out for a walk when two people came up to him and attempted to reach into his pockets. The victim told them he had no property on him and to leave him alone. The victim was then struck in the head with a metal folding chair, according to police. The suspects fled without obtaining any of the victim’s property and the victim called for help. He described the suspects to police as a Black man and a Black woman, the police said. The victim suffered lacerations and contusioni to his head and was transported by ambulance to an area hospital. The investigation is ongoing and there are no further details available. Anyone with information is asked to contact IPD.

No injuries in Jungle fire

ITHACA, NY Ithaca Police and Fire Departments responded to a structure fire in the Jungle behind Lowe’s at 1 a.m. on June 27. Responders found a large encampment engulfed in flames, as well as numerous small explosions with an odor of chemicals. Firefighters extinguished the fire and found that the encampment was vacant at the time of the fire, and the resident was then located uninjured. After the fire was extinguished police found numerous propane tanks and other hazardous materials. The fire has been labeled accidental.
