  There are two fresh local coronavirus transmission cases in Suva. The two local coronavirus transmission cases are the children of the woman who resides at Wainitarawau Settlement, Cunningham Stage One. The family attended a funeral in Tavakubu in Lautoka over the weekend which the carrier of the virus, a hotel worker, attended. Permanent Secretary for Health James Fong in a press conference said the children are a seven-month-old boy and a 14-year-old daughter. Dr. Fong said the two children were tested positive for coronavirus this morning.  “We have confirmed that two children of the 40-year-old woman who resides in Wainitarawau Settlement have been tested positive for coronavirus,” he said.

According to Fiji s Health Ministry, the two community cases are a seven-month-old son and a 14-year-old daughter of the 40-year-old case who tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday. These two, along with the mother, father, and three other children are all in the Navua Hospital isolation ward, more than 30 km west of capital city Suva. As for the six imported cases, one is a 38-year-old male who arrived in Fiji from Malaysia on April 8 while the other five are members of a family that arrived on April 8 from the Philippines.

Picture: JALE DAUCAKACAKA A family of five in Cunningham Stage 1 was taken to the Navua Hospital this morning after displaying symptoms of the COVID-19 virus. Neighbours said health officials arrived at 2am at the home, conducted tests on each family member before transporting the family to the isolation ward in Navua. Health officials also conducted swab tests on neighbouring houses, and some households in close vicinity have been advised to be on lockdown for the next 14 days. The Fiji Times is awaiting further information in relation to this case and to ascertain if this is connected to the 53-year-old quarantine facility worker who contracted the virus from a soldier who may have caught the virus from a couple who arrived into the country from India.
