There were $500,000 on the chopping block. The City Council meeting ended just before 3 a.m. at the Norman City Hall. The city council approved a budget without taking any money from the police department.Sign up for our Newsletters The councilors were considering taking $500,000 from the police department and using it to fund a mobile crisis response unit. That was a controversial move that drew plenty of criticism from the Fraternal Order of Police and some residents, especially since Norman slashed the police department s budget by $865,000 in 2020.
