The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has asked the Illinois Attorney General’s Office to investigate the recent leak of sulfuric acid from rail cars in Wood Rive
A shelter-in-place order has been issued for some residents in Wood River due to a chemical leak. Wednesday afternoon, Norfolk Southern Railroad responded to a stationary rail car containing spent sulfuric acid that had become pressurized and was venting. The car is part of a group of five cars originally picked up from the Phillips 66 refinery and staged while awaiting pick up by KCS Railroad. Railroad personnel, hazmat workers and local first.
