Complaints filed with state about Zoar fire department nonprofit status

ZOAR Three complaints about the operations of the Zoar Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. have been filed with the Charitable Law Section of the Ohio Attorney General s Office. The most recent, made May 3, came from Councilman Joseph Potelicki. He objects to the fire department holding fundraisers despite the fact that it no longer responds to fires. Potelicki noted the organization has not had a contract with Zoar for fire protection since June 2020.  As a concerned citizen and village representative, I do not understand how they can raise money for a fire department that is no longer operating, he wrote. They hold ongoing monthly dinners at the Zoar Fire Station coordinated and advertised by the Meiser family. They have not disclosed to village (council) any accounting of funds received from their dinners. Furthermore, we ve seen no evidence benefiting fire fighting for the community.

Midvale man gets prison for wrong-way Route 250 crash

The Times-Reporter NEW PHILADELPHIA Zachary A. Bloom had to be revived with an opioid overdose antidote after he drove across the median of U.S. Route 250 early on the afternoon of Aug. 16, 2018, according to assistant Tuscarawas County prosecutor Scott Deedrick.  The Midvale resident, high on fentanyl, drove a car head-on into a pickup driven by a Jewett man, 45. The truck s passenger was a coworker, a 60-year-old woman from the village of Tuscarawas. She suffered a spinal fracture, Deedrick said at Bloom s sentencing for felonious assault and other charges on Tuesday. She required surgery and a long recovery. She suffered significant pain and had numerous doctor visits. She has difficulty getting up, getting down and sleeping. She has panic attacks, anxiety attacks and nightmares. She and her husband went through hell to get through the ordeal, Deedrick said.

New Philadelphia woman reflects on five miscarriages

They would be wrong. She considers herself a mother of seven, including five lost to miscarriage. Like Landon, 10, and Regan, 2 1/2, each has a name. They are Sol, Luz, Isaiah, Poppy and Hope. A New Philadelphia High School Spanish teacher, Bostic named the first two after sun and light. I am blessed because I have two wonderful living children here on Earth but I am also grieving the five angels that were born too soon, she wrote in a Facebook post on May 9, 2020, a day before Mother s Day, less than three weeks after she and husband Brian Bostic lost their last pregnancy.

John A Arnder gets year in prison for selling drugs to man who died

The Times-Reporter NEW PHILADELAPHIA A 35-year-old man has been sentenced to a year in prison for selling powerful opioids to a man who died shortly afterward. Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Judge Elizabeth Lehigh Thomakos sentenced John A. Arnder on Wednesday for selling carfentanil and fentanyl to Johnathan D. Brinkman on June 20, 2019. Brinkman, 23, of New Philadelphia, died the same day.  He was a great child . had a heart of gold, Brinkman s mother Carla Pringle said in court.  Pringle asked the judge to hold Arnder accountable. He took my son on his sister s birthday, she said. Pringle noted that Arnder was free on his own recognizance, after having been charged with other drug offenses, at the time he sold drugs to her son. She said Brinkman might not have died if Arnder had been held accountable for the prior offense.
