ZOAR Three complaints about the operations of the Zoar Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. have been filed with the Charitable Law Section of the Ohio Attorney General s Office.
The most recent, made May 3, came from Councilman Joseph Potelicki. He objects to the fire department holding fundraisers despite the fact that it no longer responds to fires.
Potelicki noted the organization has not had a contract with Zoar for fire protection since June 2020. As a concerned citizen and village representative, I do not understand how they can raise money for a fire department that is no longer operating, he wrote. They hold ongoing monthly dinners at the Zoar Fire Station coordinated and advertised by the Meiser family. They have not disclosed to village (council) any accounting of funds received from their dinners. Furthermore, we ve seen no evidence benefiting fire fighting for the community.
