Uhrichsville and service department employee settle records case

UHRICHSVILLE The city and Council President Robert Cottrell have settled a lawsuit over public records brought by a city service department employee. The Ohio Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed the case at the request of the Kent attorney who represented Jeffrey D. Morris in the mandamus action. He had sought to have the state high court order Cottrell and the city to give him certain documents. The case was resolved through mediation, according to Service Director Belle Everett. Drew Piersall of the Columbus law firm Zashin Rich LLC represented the city. Morris and his counsel have agreed that all requested documents have been provided by the city, Everett wrote in an email message to The Times-Reporter. The city provided hundreds of pages of documents, photos and emails to Mr. Morris and his legal counsel.

Tails pet of the week: Turtle Dove

Northern Star The Tails Humane Society’s Pet of the week of March 7 is a seventeen-year-old medium female cat named Turtle Dove.  Turtle Dove is a healthy cat who is blind. Despite a lack of vision, Turtle Dove is able to navigate through rooms quite well, said Nancy Rigler, a volunteer at Tails Humane Society.  Turtle Dove’s favorite activities include snacking and taking naps in comfy spots, according to the Tails Humane Society’s description on their webpage. Turtle Dove’s name comes to her because “she makes the strangest noises I’ve ever heard a cat make,” Rigler said. “She sounds just like a cooing dove.”

Kamsack Town Council investing in security measures

Also discussed at the meeting was council’s decision to put out a request for tenders from engineering firms regarding asset management for the Town of Kamsack. “By order of the provincial government, assessments have to be done on things like roads, water, sewage systems, pipes, and buildings,” explained Brunt. “The selected company will examine Kamsack’s inventory and determine the lifespan of everything the town owns and operates. The findings will help council make better investment decisions regarding municipal infrastructure assets. For example, if it is determined that an asset is likely to break down within five years, council will be ready and equipped with a plan for replacement or modification efforts to coincide with that timing.”
