Winnipeg businesses are taking all the financial help they can get, as they prepare to survive a third COVID-19 lockdown that will last at least three weeks.

WINNIPEG A Winnipeg restaurant owner is stepping up to help others in the food service industry by offering to buy inventory from food courts, which are being forced to shut down their seating areas as part of public health orders. On Monday, the Manitoba government announced new public health restrictions, which include closing food courts in malls beginning on Wednesday. Under the new orders, the food court restaurants can remain open, but can only offer takeout. Manitobans can’t sit and eat at the food courts themselves. Now, Four Crowns Restaurant and Hotel, is offering to help out and buy food from those restaurants.
AUBURN â The Auburn Police Department and Fire Department both received approval to hire new employees at Thursdayâs meeting of the Auburn Board of Public Works and Safety.
The Police Department is hiring Derick Campbell as a patrolman. The department chose Campbell, a former area resident, through a lengthy hiring process.
The Fire Department will employ Cody LaRowe as a new firefighter. He is the son of retired firefighter Chip LaRowe, who still works part-time for the department, Fire Chief Michael VanZile said.
The board gave permission to Auburn City Steakhouse, 203 S. Main St., to expand its outdoor dining area along the 100 block of West 8th Street.
Four Crowns for WPU at Home Meet
Oskaloosa–A quartet of William Penn women’s track and field athletes claimed titles as the program hosted the William Penn Statesmen Invitational Friday.
Danisha Washington (Jr., Peoria, Ill.) was the fastest female on the track as she posted a winning 100-meter dash time of 12.62 seconds. Raven Williams (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) took home the gold in the 400 with a time of 1:02.55, while Michaela Kmiec (So., Centerville, Texas, Exercise Science) earned the victory in the 800-meter run at 2:34.37.
Abigaille Batu-Tiako (So., Plattsburgh, N.Y.) headlined WPU’s jumping crew winning the long jump with a mark of 16-7.75.
