The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office was notified regarding the autopsy of the missing person of January 12, 2021 and confirmed the identity of the recovered body to be that of 22-year-old Nathan Heathco, who carried a Baytown, Texas address. According to Criminal Investigation Division Captain Billy Knox, the autopsy further revealed that Heathco had drowned. Evidently, Heathco’s body was submerged in the small tributary off of the Trinity River, and when the water subsided, the body was left on the bank of the tributary where he was later found.
At approximately lo:3oam Sunday, a fisherman hunting for a place to fish along a tributary that leads into the Trinity River near Private Road 442 in south Liberty County found the body of a white male lying on the bank of a wooded area near this small body of water and behind a private residence. This area was beyond the search perimeter covered by Texas EquuSearch on their search of Friday, January 15th in an attempt to find 22-year-old Nathan Heathco who had been reported missing since his car crash on Hwy.1409 earlier in the week.
Liberty County Sheriff’s Lead Investigators Lucy Castro and David Meyers said that a positive identification and cause of death cannot be determined until an autopsy has been completed. Justice of the Peace Larry Wilburn of PCT. 4 conducted the inquest and ordered the autopsy. The investigation is on-going and awaiting the result of the autopsy report.

A fisherman on Sunday came upon a man s dead body in a wooded area in south Liberty County, according to the Liberty County Sheriff s Office.
The body was found 10:30 a.m. along a tributary that leads into the Trinity River near Private Road 442, just beyond the perimeter where Texas EquuSearch last Friday had been looking for 22-year-old Nathan Heathco.
Heathco was reported missing last week after a car crash on Highway 1409. The body found Sunday has yet to be identified. Officials have ordered an autopsy, and the investigation is ongoing.

On Sunday morning, a fisherman found the body of a white man lying near a tributary that leads into the Trinity River near Private Road 442 in south Liberty County, according to the Liberty County Sheriff s Office.
The fisherman told deputies the body was found lying on the bank of a wooded area near the tributary and behind a private residence. This area was beyond the search perimeter covered by Texas EquuSearch during their search for Heathco on Friday.
