Paxton’s office had re-released the figures, which was first presented to a federal court in January, in an attempt to highlight the gravity of the burgeoning crisis at the U.S. southern border. The significant surge of illegal border crossings in recent weeks, particularly by unaccompanied minors, has overwhelmed border patrol facilities and resources. © Getty Images A coalition of more than 100 law enforcement professionals and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) are joining together in calling on the Biden administration to end Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) local partnership programs.  In a letter sent Wednesday to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas The coalition wrote that the programs are a “major factor destroying community trust” in local police and justice systems.  ADVERTISEMENT “As police, prosecutors, judges, and other criminal justice professionals, we know from firsthand experience that protecting public safety means rebuilding police-community trust,” they said. “Local police need to prioritize local safety, rather than sacrificing community safety to become pawns of federal immigration policy.”

Union minister of state for home Nityanand Rai was replying to a question in the Rajya Sabha on whether the Central government had any plans to implement the NRC throughout the country. “Till now, the government has not taken any decision to prepare the National Register of Indian Citizens at the national level,” Rai said in a written reply.
