As front-line workers and the most at-risk receive vaccinations from COVID-19, the question remains on when the general public will be able to get inoculated.
Distribution of the first doses of the vaccine have fallen behind 2020 goals, both nationally and in Tennessee. It will still take some time for the vaccine to be widely available.
But relief is coming. Knox News is tracking vaccination figures provided by the state to update the public on its progress. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation s senior official for infectious diseases told NPR that 75 to 85% [of Americans] would have to get vaccinated if you want to have that blanket of herd immunity.
In coordination with the updates made today by the Tennessee Department of Health to the statewide COVID-19 Vaccination Plan, the Knox County Health Department will adopt an age-based vaccination strategy, in addition to the original priority phases outlined in the plan.
KCHD will offer a COVID-19 vaccination clinic on Saturday, Jan 2, to those who meet the Phase 1a1/Phase 1a2 criteria or are 75 years and older.
The clinic will take place at the Knoxville Expo Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., or until vaccine supplies last. There will be 500 doses of the Moderna vaccine available for those who meet the criteria. The clinic, located at 5441 Clinton Highway, will operate on a first come, first serve basis.
