Academy Award-winning Australian actor Cate Blanchett has been honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the 18th annual GâDay USA gala in Los Angeles.
Big Little Lies author Liane Moriarty and
Mystery Road actor Aaron Pedersen were also honoured.
But in a digital departure from previous years, where the event was a black-tie, invitation only dinner in Los Angeles featuring a star-studded red carpet, the 2021 âarts galaâ was instead staged virtually, with pre-taped acceptance speeches from the nightâs honourees.

Gaslit, a Watergate drama series based on the
Slow Burn podcast, has found a home at Starz.
Julia Roberts and Sean Penn are set to star in the series, which has gone through a few changes in the last few months. At one point, Joel Edgerton was set to star and direct – but Edgerton is no longer involved. Armie Hammer was also originally part of the cast, but he’s since dropped out. The series is described as “a modern take” on the Watergate scandal that brought down President Richard Nixon.
News of the show first broke last February, and now Deadline has some updates. Joel Edgerton, who was set to appear in the series and direct, is gone – and so is his brother Nash Edgerton, who was going to executive produce. Now,
Variety. It’s been a full year since the project, based on the hit podcast
Slow Burn and its extensive reinvestigation into the Watergate scandal, was first announced; in that time,
Gaslit has lost both Joel and Nash Edgerton, who wereset to star in and executive produce the series, with Nash in the director’s chair. Armie Hammer also departed the series recently in the wake of ongoing allegations of sexual abuse and misconduct, many of which originated with as-yet-unverified screenshots of social media and text conversations. While
Gaslit looks to recast Hammer’s role, Julia Roberts and Sean Penn both remain attached to headline the anthology series, which explores “the untold stories and forgotten characters of Watergate, from Nixon’s opportunistic subordinates to the deranged zealots aiding and abetting their crimes to the tragic whistleblowers who would eventually bring the whole rotten enterprise crashing down.”

Starz has picked up the Watergate drama “Gaslit,” starring Julia Roberts and Sean Penn, the premium cable channel said Monday.
Penn is set to star as Richard Nixon’s loyal attorney general, John Mitchell, with Roberts playing Mitchell’s Arkansan socialite wife, Martha.
Based on Slate’s “Slow Burn” podcast, the anthology series project previously had Joel Edgerton attached to direct and star alongside Roberts and Penn. But Edgerton and his brother, Nash Edgerton, exited the series ahead of its pickup at Starz, as did Armie Hammer. An individual with knowledge tells TheWrap the three departed several months ago due to scheduling conflicts. Hammer and Joel Edgerton’s roles are being recast.
