Ava DuVernay s Superhero Series Based On DC Comics Naomi Gets Pilot Order From The CW
✖
The CW is busy developing the next additions to the network, as they just gave pilot orders to three very different projects, and all hold promise. One of the most exciting is Ava DuVernay s superhero drama based on one of DC Comics newer characters, Naomi. DuVernay will be working with Arrow writer and co-executive producer Jill Blankenship on the series, which will put the Brian Michael Bendis, David F. Walker, and Jamal Campbell created character front and center and will be the character s live-action debut if it ends up getting greenlight and developed into a full series, so fingers crossed (via Deadline).

The CW has made a number of orders for the 2021-2022 season, including a pilot order for the live-action “Powerpuff Girls” series.
In total, The CW announced three pilot orders and one straight-to-series pickup, with the latter being a reboot of the USA Network series “The 4400.” The other two pilots are for the DC project “Naomi” from Ava DuVernay and Jill Blankenship and an untitled religious dramedy from Claire Rothrock and Ryann Weir. All of the projects are created by women.
More from Variety
According to Deadline, the reboot of
The 4400 is bypassing the pilot process and going straight to series. The original show ran for four seasons on the USA Network from 2004 to 2007 and focused on a group of 4,400 individuals who had disappeared over the past century and suddenly returned all at once in the present, with no memory of what happened in between and no change in age.
The series starred Joel Gretsch a veteran of other sci-fi series like
Taken and
V as well as Jacqueline McKenzie and, in one of his first major roles, Mahershala Ali, who has since won two Oscars and will play Marvel s next incarnation of Blade.
