Macy s Shakes Up Its Executive Ranks – JCK

Share Macy’s has shaken up its C suite, saying goodbye to its chief operations officer, as well as the cofounder of beauty brand Bluemercury. Chief operations officer John Harper, a 35-year veteran of the department store and its Macy’s division, will leave the company on Aug. 1. He has served as its COO since 2020, according to LinkedIn, and before that served as its chief stores officer. Following his departure, the COO role will be eliminated, and chief stores officer Marc Mastronardi and chief supply chain officer Dennis Mullahy will report to chairman and CEO Jeff Gennette. In addition, Laura Miller has been appointed the retailer’s chief information officer, effective March 15. Miller most recently served as chief information officer of InterContinental Hotel Group. She succeeds chief technology officer Naveen Krishna, who is leaving the company.

Marc Mastronardi, chief stores officer, and Dennis Mullahy, chief supply officer, will report directly to CEO Jeff Gennette. Macy s named Laura Miller as its chief information officer. Miller replaces Naveen Krishna, who held the title of chief technology officer and is leaving the company. Marla Beck, CEO and co-founder of Bluemercury, is also stepping down this summer. Macy s announced Monday a number of management changes as the department store looks to overhaul its business and woo back customers who are increasingly shopping online and avoiding malls during the pandemic.

Aligned with the company’s recently updated Polaris growth strategy, these changes to increase agility and efficiencies include: John Harper, chief operations officer, will depart the company effective August 1, 2021. Dive Brief: In a bid for efficiency to enable its Polaris turnaround, Macy s on Monday announced senior leadership changes, including the elimination of the chief operations role and the departure of COO John Harper from the company Aug. 1. Chuck DiGiovanna, currently vice president, real estate, will replace Douglas Sesler, who is leaving after five years of leading Macy s real estate strategy. DiGiovanna will report to CFO Adrian Mitchell, according to a company press release. Effective March 15, former InterContinental Hotel Group Chief Information Officer Laura Miller will take the CIO role at Macy s. She s replacing Chief Technology Officer Naveen Krishna, who is leaving. Finally, Bluemercury co-founder and CEO Marla Beck will leave this summer. About a year ago Beck and co-founder Barry Beck were set to leave, but Marla Beck ended up staying put.
