Tequila sunrise: Australian-made agave spirits begin to take off

Photo: Grace Quast Whatever you do, don t call it tequila! says Black Snake Distillery founder Stephen Beale, who makes a spirit from wild agave plants that grow along the creek at his family farm in Narrabri, about 500 kilometres north-west of Sydney. Agave is a weed out here. The plants grow from pups [offshoots] that washed down from a farm upstream where they were planted a hundred years ago. From those weeds, Beale and his partner Rosemary Smith make a tequila-like spirit at their solar-powered distillery. Beale explains that tequila is made in just five states in Mexico and, by definition, must be made from blue agave (Agave tequilana).

NBN News | NORTH WEST MAN FINED THOUSANDS FOR ILLEGAL DUMPING

A large amount of rubbish was left in the Etoo State Forest, near the village of Pilliga. Stephen Budgen from the Environment Protection Authority said the incident was captured on camera, as part of a crackdown by the EPA, state Forestry Corporation and Narrabri Shire Council. “Coordination between agencies means our state forests are very well monitored and protected,” Mr Budgen said. “Keeping our forests clean is a priority and anyone considering dumping waste illegally is at significant risk of getting caught.” The man was fined $4,000 for dumping the waste, which included a mattress, a sofa frame and a large barrel of household waste.

New IEA report: Gas Demand Set To Slow

Climate Council New IEA report: Gas Demand Set To Slow A NEW REPORT from the International Energy Agency reveals that demand for global gas is set to slow, but that governments need to adopt more ambitious policies to achieve net zero emissions. “This new report from the International Energy Agency exposes, once again, the folly of the Federal Government’s so-called ‘gas-led recovery’ from COVID-19,” said Climate Council Senior Researcher, Tim Baxter. The Federal Government has recently opened up 80,000km sq for offshore oil and gas exploration and is supporting numerous other gas projects including the Narrabri project in NSW and the Scarborough project in WA.
