Patna, Jan 22 : Opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav has criticised a new circular released by the Nitish Kumar government which directs the law enforcement authorities to take action against derogatory remarks on social media against government officials and public representatives.
Yadav said Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has forgotten that Bihar is the birthplace of democracy.
The people of Bihar have already forced Nitish and the Janata Dal (United) to occupy the third position in the recently concluded Bihar Assembly elections and if he wants to impose anti-democratic laws such as these, he and his party would be wiped out from Bihar, added Yadav.

Tejashwi Yadav said Nitish Kumar was decimating democracy in Bihar.
Patna:
Bihar opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav came down heavily on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday for his much-assailed gag order to rein in criticism on social media, calling him the Bhishma Pitamah - the legendary father figure from the Mahabharata - of corruption.
In a series of tweets, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader launched an all-out attack on Mr Kumar for the order by Bihar s Economic Offences wing asking all state departments to report any defamatory, wrong posts against ministers, MPs, MLAs, or officials. The perpetrator of 60 scams, Nitish Kumar, the Bhishma Pitamaha of corruption, the protector of criminals, the weak chief of an immoral and unconstitutional government. Bihar police sell liquor. I challenge the Chief Minister to arrest me under this order, Mr Yadav wrote in Hindi.

The Bihar government has instructed its police departments to begin investigating criticism of the government, parliamentarians, legislators, and government officials, NDTV reported. The move to criminalise “insulting” criticism of a government will be the the first of its kind in the country, where in recent weeks state governments and police departments have been issuing notices to artists, film-markets comedians and regular citizens over what they consider objectionable content on social media.
“Reports keep coming to light that some individuals/organizations are making offensive/indecent comments on social media about honorable ministers, members of parliament, MLAs, and government officials,” Nayyar Hasnain Khan, Additional Director General of Police at Bihar’s Economic Offences Unit wrote in a letter to the state’s secretaries. “This is illegal and falls under the category of cybercrime,” Khan said.
