Two countries sent their first spacecraft to Mars this week – China and the United Arab Emirates. Both countries celebrated successfully reaching Martian orbit.
Around 40 minutes before the machine is due to arrive at Mars, the UAE will have to perform its most daring feat to date.
This will involve blasting all of its thrusters for 27 minutes in order to reduce Hope s speed from 121,000 kilometres per hour to 18,000 kilometres per hour.
If all goes to plan, Hope will then be situated in Mars orbit.
The machine will stay there for at least one Martian year - or 687 days on Earth - where it will provide a comprehensive data set of the weather and climate of Mars.
Ultimately, this research could be used for future human settlements.
The United Arab Emirates first mission to Mars, the "Hope" probe is set to reach the Red Planet s orbit on Tuesday. In preparation for the arrival of the Hope Probe to the Red Planet, Dubai s iconic skyscraper Burj Khalifa lit up in .
