City attorney sues 101 Ash St real estate broker, citing violation of anti-corruption laws -

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – San Diego’s City Attorney Mara W. Elliott moved forward today legal action voiding City’s now infamous deal with 101 Ash St. and Civic Center Plaza buildings, aiming to recoup more than $44 million for the city. The 101 Ash St. building has become controversial as of late among San Diego’s officials. Jason Hughes, commercial real estate broker and a principal of Hughes Marino, Inc., had acted as a “special volunteer for real estate services” for former Mayor Kevin Faulconer. Elliott’s lawsuit cites evidence that Hughes violated California’s anti-corruption laws through striking two deals on behalf of the City and then pocketing $9.4 million from the sell, which was unreported compensation.
