Empowering students to LEAD the way | Donner à la population étudiante les moyens The Leaders in Equality Award of Distinction (LEAD) Program is supporting 90 post-secondary students with their studies. The first intake of the LEAD scholarship program is complete, and 90 students have been advised their applications were successful. “We are committed to empowering women and gender-diverse students to fully participate in Alberta’s recovery. This injection of $225,000 will support students at post-secondary institutions across the province as they pursue fulfilling careers that support our economy and our society. The diversity of applicants really proves that students of all backgrounds are eager to enhance gender equality in our communities.”

Last week, the province announced the creation of the Leaders in Equality Award of Distinction or LEAD program, a new scholarship with two funding streams: one for women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math),  the other for Persons Case Scholarships.  The number of beneficiaries and size of the awards have not changed. The government says the two scholarships were combined to reduce red tape.

Article content The Ministry of Alberta Culture, Multiculturalism and Status of Women has created a new program Leaders in Equality Award of Distinction (LEAD)  which will support students who are working to reduce gender discrimination in their communities, or who are studying in fields where their gender is traditionally under-represented.
