BELMONT, N.Y. A dairy farm in Allegany County is fighting to keep its land that could be taken and used to build a massive cheese plant just off I-86 in Angelica.
The county industrial development agency or ACIDA wants to use eminent domain to get the project off the ground in order to build a 480,000-square-foot facility for the Ohio-based Great Lakes Cheese Company.

Everyone loves a good comeback story, and Texas is writing one for the ages.
The Lone Star State has long been synonymous with economic prosperity and opportunity, but not even Texas could avoid the damage that the COVID-19 pandemic caused for economies across the U.S. and around the world. However, thanks to the perseverance of Texans and the steady hand of Gov. Greg Abbott, Texas is now poised for a major economic comeback. In fact, it is already happening.
Emergency personnel were called to the Emmi Roth cheese production plant in Seymour, WI Saturday evening for an airborne anhydrous ammonia release, Outgamie County Emergency Management announced in a statement on Facebook.
Crews were dispatched to the Bronson Road facility at 7 p.m. “Upon arrival, signs of an ammonia release were observed, and emergency personnel began evacuation of residents in the immediate area of the release,” the agency’s release said.
A HAZMAT team and firefighters worked to contain the release and the evacuation order was later lifted. Local television news station WBAY said the leak was controlled by 11:38 p.m.

BELMONT Roy Bielewicz was channeling Joni Mitchell in front of the Allegany County Courthouse Thursday morning, as close to 100 gathered to protest the use of eminent domain to facilitate the construction of a new $505 million cheese manufacturing facility.
“Our legislators are paving paradise to put up a cheese factory,” said Bielewicz, paraphrasing the lyrics to “Big Yellow Taxi,” Mitchell s 1970 ode to the environment.
