Odisha: Enforcing mask rule an uphill task | Bhubaneswar News

Policemen crack down on markets in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday BHUBANESWAR: Though the fresh Covid cases are breaking new records every day and doctors and health experts are repeatedly urging people to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour, they seem to have scant regard for the rules. Many are still refusing to wear a mask or making lame excuses like the need for fresh air or the unbearable heat to take it off. “I am shocked to see so many people move around without masks on the road and in the market. When will they understand? I had arguments with many shopkeepers and vendors when I confronted them for not wearing masks. Such irresponsible people must not be allowed to put the lives of others at risk,” said Shibani Mishra, a young professional.

High schools to get temporary staff for 100 days of classes | Bhubaneswar News

BHUBANESWAR: School and mass education minister Samir Ranjan Dash has asked the district education officers (DEOs) to engage teachers from schools that won’t reopen soon, or retired teachers, in high schools with inadequate staff strength to ensure 100 days of classroom study for class X and XII students. “If we cannot do 100 days of classroom teaching, we may not complete the course on time,” Dash said. He added that DEOs had been asked to appoint retired teachers in high schools and to divert PG teachers from elementary schools to high schools with high teacher vacancy. Teachers said it would be stressful for them and students to attend classes for 100 days straight. “Teachers have household responsibilities and health issues to address too. We are requesting the government to let at least Sundays be holidays,” said Prakash Chandra Mohanty, secretary of Odisha Secondary School Teachers’ Association.
