Slate Belt township considers creating special fee district for massive development

The proposed River Pointe Commerce Park is bound by River Road, Route 611, Potomac Street and Pine Tree Lane and sits in Upper Mount Bethel Township’s industrial zoning districts. It is owned by River Pointe Logistics, which plans 13 buildings totaling nearly 6 million square feet.

Upper Mount Bethel Township is considering an application to create a Neighborhood Improvement District.
The application comes from River Pointe Logistics, which has proposed a commerce park up to 6 million square feet of buildings on 725 acres in the township’s industrial zoning district. The company purchased the property in 2019.

National brands GoodLife Fitness and PetSmart will soon be arriving at River Point Landing, announced developer Platform Properties Ltd. recently.
“We are pleased to announce that we have signed on these national brands as our anchor tenants for the first phase of River Point Landing. Both GoodLife Fitness and PetSmart are leading retailers in their respective categories,” said Kyle Shury, principal of Platform. “Construction of the first phase will begin this summer, with store openings by next summer. We are looking forward to constructing this project in the community of Prince George during this exciting time.”
River Point Landing will be directly adjacent to the River Point Shopping Centre, a 70,000 square feet centre developed by Anthem Properties. Together, both shopping centres encompass a high-profile location along Highway 16 at Ferry Avenue.
‘Back to the drawing board’: Pa. rejects Slate Belt township’s public sewer system plan

One Slate Belt township won’t be installing its first public sewer system, at least not with its current plan.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has rejected Upper Mount Bethel Township’s proposed Act 537 Sewer Plan. The Dec. 18 denial letter lists multiple administrative and technical deficiencies with the submitted plan.
Upper Mount Bethel Township Supervisor John Bermingham said a revised plan is unlikely to be considered by the board of supervisors until the Northampton County Court of Common Pleas makes a decision regarding a legal challenge to recent text amendments to the township’s zoning ordinance.
