Tishman Speyer to convert DC mall to apartments

Tishman Speyer has picked up a Washington DC mall it plans to partially convert to apartments. The New York-based developer paid around $55 million for the Mazza Gallerie urban mall site which Annaly Commercial Real Estate Group bought out of foreclosure for $38 million last year. Annaly acquired the property at auction after Ashkenazy Acquisition Corp.  defaulted on mortgage payments for the 294,000 s/f retail center it had bought for $78 million in January 2017. Once a luxury shopping mecca, the mall had lost much of its luster before the start of the COVID pandemic but was driven further into demise when lockdowns drove its anchor

Four Black men developed a Montgomery County suburb to provide a better life for some in their community They received something very different in return

The front page of The Washington Times in 1906 showing the Belmont land and nearby houses. In 1906, four African American men attempted to develop an elite suburb for African Americans along Wisconsin Avenue between Chevy Chase and Friendship Heights, Maryland. Dark chocolate and rum mousse with berries. Tosca built a reputation as a classic DC power spot, especially at lunch, where lobbyists, lawyers, and politicos would meet over short-rib agnolotti at white-clothed tables. But the days when the Obamas would drop by for date night are long past, and Sacco observed that much of the nighttime energy and younger clientele were drawn to booming restaurant neighborhoods like 14th Street and Shaw.
