The second weekend in June has been targeted for a variety of activities, a stark contrast to this time last year, when nothing much was going. And not to be left out is Mother Nature, who just now realizes it s nearing mid-June and it needs to be West Texas hot. The big event this weekend, of course, is the ninth Children s Art & Literacy Festival downtown, beginning with a parade and sculpture unveiling tonight. The 2020 event did not happen, with most activities pushed to 2021. Guest author-illustrator Loren Long delayed his first trip to Abilene.

The Abilene Quilters Guild is accepting entries for its annual Stars Over Abilene Regional Quilt Show, to be presented 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 11 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 12 at the Abilene Convention Center, 1100 N. Sixth St. Entries are $4 per quilt, and must be submitted by May 15. Entry forms are available at abilenequiltersguild.net and at R Quilt Haven, 115 N. Leggett Drive.
