Utica, N.Y. - The 2021 version of America s Greatest Heart Run and Walk was unlike any other in the event s 47 year history.
It was held on Saturday, here in the middle of May instead of the first week of March, and it was considered a virtual event, as individuals and groups did their own run or walk to raise money, rather than having one huge event.
Town Supervisor Paul Miscione said the town board passed the law unanimously at its Wednesday meeting.
“It’s the first time ever a town will run a solar farm,” Miscione said.
The law which required a zoning change has been winding its way through town government since last year and recently passed the town’s planning board, Miscione said. The law will allow solar farms to be built on town-owned property and leased to outside companies.
The town expects to go out to bid for solar companies this spring.
Miscione has identified two possible places for the solar farms: On Route 12, where the town’s parks are located, or along Middle Settlement Road across from Special Metals.
OHM BOCES joins other schools in going remote until early January
Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES is closing its campus on Middle Settlement Road in New Hartford through early January.

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. – Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES is closing its campus on Middle Settlement Road in New Hartford through early January, following in the footsteps of several other districts that have made the same decision recently.
Starting Friday, BOCES students in the Bridges, Career and Technical Education, Middle Settlement Academy, P-TECH and STEPs programs will switch to fully remote learning through Friday, Jan. 8, 2021.
According to a post to the BOCES website, all students in these programs are expected to return to in-person instruction on Monday, Jan. 11.
