Asgar Asgarov is an award-winning multimedia journalist who joined VOA in 2004. He is currently the Acting Division Director of the South and Central Asia division, appointed in July 2021 from his prior position as the Acting Program Manager. Prior to his appointments in the SCA division management, Dr. Asgarov served as the chief of VOA’s Azerbaijani service. During his tenure at VOA, he has worked in numerous capacities which have included news casting, production, and program development. As the anchor of the Azerbaijani service’s prime time TV shows and radio programs, he has interviewed government officials, legislators, experts and dissidents on a vast range of subjects. Dr. Asgarov has expertise in global history, international affairs, and U.S. foreign policy.
