CHENNAI: Police lathicharged people who went into a frenzy mode on spotting actor Vijay cycling to a polling booth at Neelangarai in Chennai on Tuesday morning.
The actor, who wore a green shirt, was cycling to a polling station to cast his vote. His fans and others followed him on their two-wheelers taking photos and videos on their mobile phones.
The actor tried pedalling faster. But he could not move forward as he was surrounded by people.

Her mentor MG Ramachandran and M Karunanidhi won two consecutive terms but with the interruptions of President’s Rule. From 1989 till 2016 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa alternated in running the government.

Actor Vijay today rode a cycle in Chennai to cast his vote in the Tamil Nadu election. The ride caused a near traffic jam and even mild police action as a crowd started chasing the actor on the streets.
In visuals that went viral online, Vijay was seen riding his cycle on a narrow road in Chennai, virtually surrounded by people following him on two-wheelers, taking photos. The movie star tried to pedal faster but could not lose his chaotic entourage.

CHENNAI: Actor Vijay set social media afire on election day by arriving to vote on a bicycle attracting inferences from political commentators that it was the actor’s move to highlight the fuel price issue. DMK functionaries and cadre too capitalised on the actor’s bicycle ride by focusing on the ‘red and black’ colour of the bicycle.
Twitter users were quick to point out that Bollywood actors Amitabh Bacchan, Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher tweeted about using bicycles during fuel price hike in UPA rule in 2012, but the superstar from Tamil Nadu did it for real on election day.
