The Redwood Highway Fire near Selma, Oregon is mostly contained. Nevertheless, fire officials are calling for increased caution and vigilance in extremely dry conditions.
Around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, a 911 caller driving along Highway 199 reported a small fire burning near the road south of Selma. The caller said the fire was burning uphill toward the surrounding forested area, according to Jeff Gavlik, deputy chief with the Illinois Valley Fire District.
Immediately, firefighters with multiple agencies responded, beginning to contain and knock down the fire. Highway 199 was then temporarily closed Saturday night to allow firefighting ground crews and aircrafts to work through the night. By 5 p.m. Sunday, firefighters were able to contain and mop-up most of the fire, and the road has since reopened.

Highway 199 is now fully re-opened and evacuations in place for several hours Saturday night have been lifted.
The Oregon Department of Forestry said the fire is now 100% lined and 45% contained.
The fire has been burning south along Highway 199 near milepost 23, although ODF said aircraft were able to stop the forward spread.
Crews had one fire at milepost 17, another at 18 and the main fire at milepost 23 when it started around 6:30 Saturday night.
Crews made great progress overnight and limited the fires to about six acres total.

New fires has been discovered between Selma and Kerby near Gold Canyon Dr. (Sisses Gap). Because of fire conditions in the area, the Josephine County Sheriff s Office has issued a Level 1 BE READY Evacuation Order to people living on Wild Park Lane and Terrell Way.

UPDATE: According to ODF Southwest, firefighters from their office, Illinois Valley Fire District, Rural Metro Fire, Applegate Valley Fire District, Rogue River Fire District, and Oregon State Police are on scene of an estimated 15 acre fire along Highway-199 near Milepost 23.
