$4 6M Crisis Stabilization Unit planned for Rapid City

The next step in crisis care is in the works right here in Rapid City but needs to jump through legislative hoops before becoming reality. A Crisis Stabilization Unit is planned to work in conjunction with the Care Campus and OneHeart. Senate Bill 133 would approve $4.6 million dollars for the Department of Social Services to build the Crisis Stabilization Unit. To be built directly next to the Care Campus, the 13,000 square foot facility will expand the existing crisis care center and intertwine all available services. “There are a lot of co-occurring disorders,” said Pennington County Sheriff Kevin Thom. “People have substance abuse issues with mental health so being able to address both of those in a one-stop shop setting makes it more efficient and more effective.”
