Dead by Daylight Confirms Colorblind Mode Release Window Amid Controversial Comments

Dead by Daylight is getting a colorblind mode, Behaviour Interactive has confirmed, though the announcement was not without controversy. Comments from a
Dead by Daylight team member shared while streaming the game were viewed as dismissive and insensitive to those who’ve been asking for a colorblind mode. In response to the situation, Behaviour Interactive said the comments did not reflect the team’s views and said that the colorblind mode had been in the works for a while now.
The tweet below from AbleGamers COO Steven Spohn gained traction on Twitter after he asked the
Dead by Daylight studio Behaviour Interactive publicly apologised after one of its developers criticised a viewer on Twitch for asking for a colourblind mode.
The controversy also accelerated the reveal of said colourblind mode, which was subsequently unveiled on Twitter yesterday.
As reported by Kotaku, Dead by Daylight s designer Ethan Larson said on his personal Twitch stream on January 12 that it was getting very boring to hear a viewer blabbing about colourblind mode all the time. We ve heard it a million times, we know, he continued, as seen in this YouTube video showing the incident. Continuing to badger us about it is not going to change anything. If it gets done it will get done when we have time to do it or if someone decides that it s something that should be done. We know a lot of players want it, it s not a small number, we get it.
Behaviour Interactive, the developers of Dead by Daylight, has announced that it will be adding a colorblind mode to the game. This comes at a time when it received a lot of backlash from the community for certain remarks made by one of the developers.
In a tweet, Behavior Interactive mentions that the colorblind mode, which is slated to arrive shortly, will include accessibility settings for deuteranope (inability to perceive green light), protanope (inability to perceive red light), and tritanope (inability to perceive blue light).
In a video that’s part of the tweet, the developer mentions that they hope to have the update ready for the next big chapter update. “Not the mid-chapter that’s coming, but the big update after that,” the dev says. “We can’t officially commit to a full date right now, but we’re hoping to have this release for the next chapter update.”

A little over a week after a
Dead by Daylight designer became publicly agitated over requests for accessibility options, developer Behaviour Interactive has announced that it is working on accommodations for colorblind players.
“This is not how we wanted to reveal this, but we feel it’s the right time,” the studio’s official Twitter account told video game accessibility advocate and advisor Steven Spohn earlier today. “We have been working on a colorblind mode for some time now and we are planning on a release shortly.”
