Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at a rally in Biswanath Chariali on Tuesday
GUWAHATI: BJP is aiming to win at least five new seats and retain all those it had won in 2016 in upper Assam and northern Assam constituencies which will go to the polls in first phase on March 27, including Titabor seat represented by former chief minister late Tarun Gogoi and Nazira seat represented by Debabrata Saikia, son of another former chief minister Hiteswar Saikia.
BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “We are trying to increase our number (seats) by four to five seats in this region. We are looking at Jonai, Nazira, Doom Dooma, Sibsagar, Golaghat, Sarupathar, Mariani and Titabor, which were not with BJP last time,” Sarma said. “Winning four to five seats in the first phase polls will take the NDA closer to winning 100 seats,” he added.
