At Tikri border, almost every group of farmers is equipped with a broom and a plastic bag. While a few langar organisers have set up dustbins, these are not enough. Sanjeev Kumar (42), a petrol pump sanitation worker, is now tasked with cleaning the area in front of the pump, where many langars have been set up: “Earlier, I would sweep around 5-6 kg of waste to one corner of the petrol pump, till the Nagar Parishad truck came in. Since the protests started, I sweep aside 80-90 kg of waste. Once I have done this, sanitation workers come and do the needful.”

Following the setback in
Panchayati Raj polls, the Congress in Rajasthan on Sunday managed a good performance in the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) elections with wins in 619 wards.
In the results declared Sunday for 1,775 wards of 50 ULBs in 12 districts, Congress won 619 wards, compared to the BJP’s 548.
BJP also fell behind Independents, who won 596 wards. Other parties in the fray included the Bahujan Samaj Party (7), Communist Party of India (2), CPI [Marxist] (2) and Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) (1).

The results for 1,775 wards of 50 ULBs in 12 districts were declared on Sunday with the Congress winning 620 wards and BJP 548. The Independents won 596 wards, while the Bahujan Samaj Party won 7 wards.
Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra addressed a press conference on Sunday and expressed happiness over the performance of the Congress party in ULB elections. Dostara slammed the BJP saying that the results show that the urban electorate are not willing to back the saffron party anymore.

Jaipur:
The ruling Congress in Rajasthan has beaten the BJP in urban local body elections held days after the party suffered a setback in rural polls.
Congress won a lead in 14 of 50 municipalities across 12 districts where voting was held. The BJP has won in four. But the Congress has claimed it can form a board in 41 municipalities with help from independents.
The Congress has won 619 of the 1,775 wards in 12 districts with Independents placing second after winning 595 wards. The BJP had to settle for third spot after it won 549 wards.
Independents have performed well in the elections to urban municipal bodies or Nagar Palikas and Nagar Parishads, virtually emerging as kingmakers. In 32 municipal councils, the support of independents will decide who forms the council.
As many as 2622 polling booths have been set up for polling in 1775 wards of 43 Nagar Palikas and 7 Nagar Parishad and a total of 14.32 lakh voters are eligible to cast their votes.
