Officials inspect vaccination programme at PHCs and CHCs
The unprecedented spike in the COVID-19 cases in Chittoor district during the last one month, with 740 cases on Saturday, has kept the district administration on heels.
Deputy District Medical and Health Officer P. Ravi Raju, along with COVID-19 Task Force officials, has inspected the ongoing vaccination drive at the community health centres at Nagari and Puttur, and the primary health centres in Nagari assembly constituency limits. “As per instructions from the District Collector, we have been focussing on the border areas in eastern mandals,” the official said. Saturday’s tally was the highest the district has seen since September last.

Elephants continue to damage crop and properties in tri-State junction area
The foresters in Chittoor district were elated when the Asiatic elephants reappeared in the Kuppam region in the early 1980s, after a hiatus of a century. By 1990, the Koundinya wildlife sanctuary spreading over about 1 lakh acres of foersts in Palamaner, Kuppam and Chittoor west ranges, flanked by Tamil Nadu and Karnatakawas was ready for the pachyderms.
Man-animal conflict
The number of elephants which stood in single digit four decades ago has now increased to more than a hundred, including those in the Koundinya sanctuary. Now, the elephant menace has become a concern for the foresters and the farmers as the animals frequently venture into agriculture lands and damage crops, leading to man-animal conflict. Nine elephants died of electrocution in 2019-20 financial year and half a dozen of people died during the same period. Many villagers were injured in jumbo attacks.

Amaravati, March 15 : Actor-politician and Janasena founder Pawan Kalyan alleged that the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) won majority of seats in the municipal polls by threatening to cut rations and food supplies to people if they do not vote for them . YSRCP may have won the highest number of seats in the municipal elections but that victory came with threats, said Kalyan. We will remove pensions for you parents. We will stop the money you receive for your children s education. We will not waive loans for farmers. Like this they threatened and hit them where it hurt most source of food and shelter to win. However, they did not give them any assurance, he added.
