In a major development towards improving the health infrastructure in the city, the Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) has decided to build five urban health centres with a financial outlay of ₹4 crore.
MP M. Gurumoorthy, MLA B. Karunakar Reddy, Mayor R. Sireesha and MCT Commissioner P.S. Gireesha participated in the ground breaking ceremony here on Friday for the construction of the centres coming up at Tirumala Reddy Nagar, Madhava Nagar, Auto Nagar, Tata Nagar and Muthyala Reddy Palle (old Panchayat office) under the National Health Mission.

He was recently felicitated by CM for his services in the war to liberate East Pakistan
War veteran and ‘Maha Vir Chakra’ awardee Major General Chittoor Venugopal (95) died at his residence on Wednesday.
A Lieutenant Colonel during the Indo-Pak war, Venugopal had commanded a battalion of Gorkha Rifles during the operations on the eastern front on December 4, 1971, when he had to confront the well-fortified enemy defences at Uthali and Darsana. His battalion had vigorously chased away the retreating enemy till Jhenida was captured three days later.

Night curfew and daytime strictures tightened further in Chittoor
Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) Commissioner P.S. Girisha on Monday said that the city had been declared as a ‘containment zone’, following the sharp spike in coronavirus infection in all the 50 divisions of the civic body.
“Denizens must exercise caution and adhere to all COVID protocols. People must give a top priority to wearing mask while venturing out for procuring provisions and attending inevitable engagements,” he told the media here.
