LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A judge today dismissed all civil claims filed against a real estate company by the City Attorney s Office in a lawsuit alleging a South Los Angeles commercial cannabis business operated illegally and sold pot found to contain a dangerous pesticide.
Lawyers for Daum Commercial Real Estate had filed a motion arguing the part of the case against their clients should be dismissed because they did not own or operate a cannabis business and were not the owner or lessor of property engaged in a such an enterprise. They maintained their clients served as brokers in the lease of the property and did not lease or rent any property of their own.
LA WATCHDOG On November 7, 2018, the FBI raided the home and offices of Councilman Jose Huizar.
Since that time, the U.S. Attorney’s Office has charged nine individuals in connection with its ongoing criminal investigation into the pay-to-play corruption scandal enveloping Los Angeles City Hall. But we have seen very little, if any, effort to address this cancer and its underlying symptoms, in large part because of lack of political will on the part of Mayor Eric Garcetti and City Attorney Mike Feuer to take on the most corrupt City Council in the history of Los Angeles.
On Monday, the first shoe dropped as former City Councilman Mitch Englander was sentenced to 14 months in jail (no doubt a Club Fed, not hard time) and a $15,000 fine in connection with his guilty plea in March to one count of scheming to falsify material facts. But this felon, who betrayed the public’s trust, deserved a much harsher sentence: three years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and the forfeiture

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Walgreens will be paying the city of Los Angeles and 44 other local jurisdictions $3.5 million to settle a lawsuit connected to improper waste disposal and mishandling of customers records in violation of an injunction issued as part of an earlier settlement – prosecutors announced today.
Deerfield, Illinois-based Walgreens Co. was sued earlier this year over numerous alleged instances of dumping over-the-counter and prescription medications, electronic devices, batteries, aerosol products, cleaning agents and other hazardous waste into receptacles bound for landfills, instead of separate collection locations, according to the Los Angeles City Attorney s Office.
The city attorney said his office has filed about 300 criminal complaints against drivers convicted of a DUI who did not install an interlock device in their car as required. He said data has shown the interlock system reduces drunk or drugged driving.
Feuer said his office was part of an effort to pass a state law that, as of 2019, requires all people convicted of a DUI to install interlock systems which prevent them from starting the vehicle if they ve been drinking alcohol.
“My message is very simple: if you are driving, do not drive under the influence,” Feuer said.
“You can avert a tragedy that will live with you for the rest of your life, if you survive.”
