Zahilay applauded Oliver and their team. He recalled meeting Oliver during his own campaign. At that time, they grilled Zahilay on if he would align with marginalized communities. He rattled off a list of Oliver s accomplishments and community organizing with #NoNewYouthJail and Decriminalize Seattle. Impressive feats for someone outside of public office. Low ballot returns show lukewarm enthusiasm for hotly-contested races in western Washington

As of Monday morning, roughly 15% of Washington voters returned ballots to their county elections offices. Author: Chris Daniels Updated: 10:26 PM PDT August 2, 2021 Ballot returns statewide show lukewarm enthusiasm over Tuesday s primary election in Washington state.  As of Monday morning, roughly 15% of Washington voters returned ballots to their county elections offices. The number was slightly higher in King County, the state s most populous, at just under 16%.  Does that speak to maybe a lack of passion around some of the elections, pondered KING 5 Political Analyst and former George W. Bush White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan.  I think people have fatigue, people don t vote when they re tired. So I think that the low turnout, it may be in response, people just tired, they re just tired of it, suggested fellow KING 5 News Political Analyst and former three-term King County Executive Ron Sims.

Seattle has a chance to improve quality of life by electing Ann Davison as City Attorney

Tweet I think the first time I had ever heard of Seattle City Attorney Pete Holmes was when I wrote this story more than two years ago. Here’s the gist of what happened: A 55-year-old homeless man named Francisco Calderon punched a complete stranger in the mouth one day in November, giving him a bloody lip. The victim called 911 and Calderon was arrested and charged with assault. He pleaded guilty to the crime. That turned out to be his 72nd time being convicted of a crime, fourteen of those convictions were felonies. And yet, City Attorney Pete Holmes worked out a plea deal with Calderon’s public defender which would keep him out of jail. Instead, he would get probation and drug treatment. Enter Municipal Court Judge Ed McKenna whose job it was to sentence Calderon.
