POLAND The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office started 24/7 patrols July 1, Town Manager Matthew Garside told selectpersons Tuesday night.
Voters at the April town meeting endorsed expanding coverage from 16 hours a day.
The Sheriff’s Office previously told town officials they had given conditional offers to two applicants, but they would not be ready to patrol July 1, but that would not delay the July 1 start date.
Garside also advised the board that the next marijuana licensing lottery is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, at the Town Office Conference Room. All applications must be accompanied by a conditional license issued by the state and fees are payable by cash, money order, or bank check. The deadline for submission is 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5.

POLAND Town Manager Matthew Garside informed the Select Board on Tuesday that use of the American Rescue Plan funds passed in March can only be used locally to make up for revenue lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said the town is slated to receive $596,000 over the next two years with $268,000 arriving shortly.
The Select Board approved Garside’s recommendation to use $50,000 of it for Hackett Mills Road.
The Select Board also learned that Maple Lane and the Elm Street Extension to Mechanic Falls will be paved this week.

POLAND On the recommendation of engineering firm Wright-Pierce, the Board of Selectpersons decided Tuesday night to postpone taking bids on the Route 26 sewer extension until September or October.
Rob Williamson, who works for the Topsham engineering firm overseeing the project, told the board a diminished labor force has compelled contractors to limit work that can be done this year.
