Over 3,000 families in Marikina City have been evacuated to designated camps as of Saturday (July 24) after the second alarm was raised when Marikina River’s water level reached 16 meters, according to the Marikina Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO).

Marikina DRRMO said that as of 11 a.m., July 24, a total of 3,131 families or a total of 13,484 individuals have been evacuated.
The city government has designated schools as evacuation camps for residents affected by floods.
The river reached 16 meters at 1:40 a.m. on Saturday (July 24). This means people dwelling in low-lying areas must leave their homes and evacuate.

Marikina City Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro said this on Monday (July 12) as he noted that mass gatherings during election season are considered as “super spreader events.”
“Talagang kailangan ng guidelines na susundan. Hindi maaaring business as usual tayo sa election dahil iba na eh, narito yung pandemya. Hindi naman mawawala ito (We really need guidelines. It can’t be business as usual during the election season because of the pandemic. This will not go),” Teodoro said in a radio interview.
“Hindi ibig sabihin na pagdating ng Mayo, kung kailangan mag election eh mawawala ito. Hindi, narito na ito ( It does not mean that the virus will disappear in May because it is election season. No, it will not),” he added.
In a bid to vaccinate workers in the city to revive the local economy, the city government of Marikina has inked a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with a homegrown private company in the city.
