L Humanité Dimanche poursuit sa série consacrée aux oubliées du 7e art. Pour commencer, place à Elvira Notari. Au début du XXe siècle, l’Italienne réalise de bouillonnants films mélodramatiques dans le Naples populaire. Ses héroïnes, des femmes fortes, prêtes à tout pour sortir de leur condition.
Des calèches filent à vive allure dans les rues de Naples. En procession vers le sanctuaire de Montevergine, les chevaux fendent une foule animée. À l’ombre du Vésuve, les deux protagonistes, Margaratella et Tore, se croisent. Mais leur relation vénéneuse s’achèvera par un féminicide. « È’Piccerella » (« la Petite »), film muet réalisé en 1922 par Elvira Notari, concentre toute l’essence de son œuvre. Quand elle fonde avec son mari, Nicola, la société de production Dora Film, du nom de leur fille cadette, c’est précisément pour raconter ces mélodrames déchirants, ancrés dans un quotidien âpre.

The Son opened in London in February 2019, and Londonâs West End in September 2019, to rave reviews. Writer-director Zeller says,
âThe Son is a deeply human story which, I believe, connects us all; I hope audiences will be profoundly moved by this familyâs journey. The story is set in a vibrant and very much alive New York, an important character. The movie should make us call family and friends to tell them that they are wholly loved and not alone.â

Florian Zeller, director of the Best Picture nominee “The Father,” has set his follow-up film based on another of his plays called “The Son,” and Laura Dern and Hugh Jackman are set to star.
Zeller will adapt the screenplay for “The Son” along with his writing partner on “The Father,” Christopher Hampton (“Dangerous Liaisons,” “Atonement”). Zeller will also produce along with Oscar winners Iain Canning and Emile Sherman, Joanna Laurie for See-Saw Films and Christophe Spadone.
