$275 million in business interruption grants were announced last week with about $1.6 million of that going to Galesburg businesses, according to a release from the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. The Business Interruption Grant (BIG) program was developed by Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois General Assembly to provide economic relief for small businesses hit hardest by COVID-19. Of the businesses getting grants to include the Knox County YMCA, which is set to receive the largest amount of any Knox County business who applied: $150,000. Other businesses include Landmark Cafe and Creperie, City Select Motors, Azer Clinic, Iron Spike Brewing Company, Locke’s Roofing and Siding, and The Packinghouse. In total, 52 businesses in Galesburg received grants with 49 of them being awarded as part of the second round of the BIG program.
