Horseshoe Bay renourishment works
A project to replenish sand along the Horseshoe Bay shoreline is underway with more than 5,000 cubic meters being relocated to mitigate the impact of coastal erosion.
Townsville City Council Community Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability Committee chairperson Maurie Soars said the annual sand replenishment works were part of the Horseshoe Bay Shoreline Erosion Management Plan.
“These important annual works are crucial in managing erosion at Horseshoe Bay, which can be caused by a number of factors such as king tides or weather events,” Cr Soars said.
“Our crews will work over the next two or so weeks to move sand across the shoreline to build up the beaches dunes and esplanade while building on the resilience of the beach itself for any future weather events that may arise.
