Major fundraising event raises £9,500 for Hythe Ferry

1/1 CAMPAIGNERS are celebrating the success of a 24-hour fundraising event that has netted more than £9,000 for the Hythe Ferry. Ashleigh Mutimear and her supporters walked up and down the 700-yard Hythe Pier to raise vital cash for the ferry, which has been hit by the Covid crisis. The event was accompanied by a family fun day at the nearby Lord Nelson pub, followed by an open day on the pier itself. Visitors to the jetty were joined by children s author Simon Chadwick, of Dibden Purlieu, who signed copies of his new book, A Seal Swam In From The Sea, which has been published in aid of the Save the Ferry campaign.

The group has 10 premises, including its 151-bedroom hotel at City Quay in Dundee. Newly filed accounts for the year ending April 2020 show the pandemic’s impact on profits and sales. Revenue was down 9% from £75.5 million to £68.7m. Pre-tax profit was £7m, down from £12.4m in 2019. The firm said it saw a steep decline in international travel from January 2020. Its portfolio then closed in the first lockdown on March 20. Dundee investments Chief executive Angela Vickers said the company was in an excellent position to grow revenue now hospitality has reopened.

People out in their thousands in Southampton for bank holiday

CITY centre shops and pubs were full on Saturday as people headed out to enjoy the first day of their bank holiday weekend. In Southampton, some shops had queues across the street whilst pub gardens were full once again with restrictions now having been eased. Thousands took the opportunity to do a spot of shopping in Above Bar Street, whilst in Bedford Place, Town Quay and around West Quay, restaurants and bars were full of people soaking up the sun whilst it lasted. Elsewhere in the county, shoppers and visitors to a town centre watched as one of the first live music performances of the year took place.

Hampshire pubs hit by damaging no-shows since reopening

PUBS have spoken out after experiencing an increased number of no-shows since reopening. As of April 12, pubs and restaurants have been allowed to open for outdoor service only for the first time in months after coronavirus restrictions were eased. But now, several pubs have said they have lost money due to people booking tables but not showing up. At The Lapstone in Horton Heath, owner Russ Kitching claimed that 15 per cent of bookings last weekend didn t show up despite bringing in live music for those two days. We take 50% of our turnover at weekends and that s when a no-show can be quite damaging.
