Under the current lockdown exit roadmap, outlined by the Prime Minister, beer gardens and restaurants with outside areas can open their doors to punters on April 12. From May 17 indoor hospitality is set to open, where the rule of six or two household rule will apply. However, not all pubs will be opening their gardens when lockdown restrictions ease with several across the county in need of new owners. Campaign to save Hythe Ferry has already raised thousands

1/1 A CAMPAIGN to save the Hythe Ferry has already raised almost £7,000 - more than ten per cent of its target. More than 230 people have supported a Crowdfunding page launched last month after Blue Funnel Ferries announced it had run out of money. The ferry enables people to travel to Southampton and back without adding to congestion on the A326 and other roads in the area. One of the comments posted on the Crowdfunding page says: This vital link between Hythe and Southampton needs to be preserved. It is part of our heritage and needs to be saved for future generations to benefit and enjoy.

Hampshire pubs encouraged by plans to reopen in April

HAMPSHIRE pubs have said they are encouraged by the Prime Minister s roadmap out of lockdown as they prepare to open in April. On Monday, the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson revealed his plans as the country emerges from a third national lockdown announcing that pubs will be able to open outside from April 12 with drinkers allowed inside again from May 17. Pubs have now come out in support of the plans as they look to recover financially from the affects of the pandemic. Daniel Morgan, who owns The Good Companion in Eastleigh was previously cautious about the prospect of just serving outside, but now said he s positive that there is a thought out plan, and is preparing to open in the most cost affective way.

Starling Bank to expand in Southampton after committing to more office space

THE digital bank which has created more than 200 jobs in Southampton is to expand in the city. Starling brought customer service and technical jobs to Town Quay when it chose the city for its first base outside London in 2019. It currently has 226 people based at the Beresford House site – and its boss has revealed that it has committed to more space. Starling Bank founder and chief executive Anne Boden told the Daily Echo: “We’re very, very happy with Southampton. “We’ve actually committed to taking a bit more space in Southampton.” The bank, based around a mobile app and 24-hour support on the phone, now has more than 2.2million accounts, including 4.4 per cent of the UK’s small and medium sized business market.
