A speed reduction is coming to a portion of Oxford Street.
According to Regional and City Councillor Brian Nicholson, the speed limit on Oxford Street between Porter Street and Malaga Road was reduced to 40 km/h from 50 km/h to increase the safety for pedestrians in the area.
However, he says it was an oversight that the section of Oxford Street between Malaga Road and Valencia Road was missed.
“[It is] exacerbated by the fact we learned there is an on-street school bus pickup zone,” says Nicholson.

Oshawa’s Fireworks Bylaw is being amended to provide greater clarity concerning the sale and discharge of fireworks when a prohibition is in place.
According to a city report, the need for these changes became apparent last year when a Fireworks Discharge prohibition was declared and fireworks sale permits in temporary sale units, such as portable stands and trailers, were not being issued to prevent large gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Oshawa Fire Chief Derrick Clark says people continued to sell fireworks last year despite the prohibition order.

Oshawa City Council has given heritage designations to two significant landmarks in the city.
Council endorsed a heritage designation for the whole of Lakeview Park and the Second Marsh under the
Ontario Heritage Act at its March 29, 2021 meeting.
Regional and City Councillor Brian Nicholson says this is a “signature motion” for the city to give these sites heritage designations, who notes the reaction from the community has been universal in support of the designations.

Cordova Valley Park and Fenelon-Venus Park are getting makeovers and the city is looking for the community’s input.
Ward 4 Regional and City Councillor Rick Kerr, chair of the community services committee, says this is “terrific news” for residents of all ages in these areas.
“In these pandemic times, enhanced outdoor activity opportunities are so important to the increased well-being of our fellow citizens,” he says.
Located at 811 Glen St., south of Bloor Street between Park and Ritson Roads, Cordova Valley Park will be the home of Oshawa’s newest off-leash dog area and will also feature a new playground, enhanced amenities and an improved soccer layout.
