DENVER, June 10, 2021 The Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) and the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) have announced 16 regional teams, representing 169 rural communities, as participants in the Colorado Rural Resiliency and Recovery Roadmap program.
The Lamar City Council held in-depth discussions regarding two ordinances during its May 10
th meeting. One proposes the creation of a five-member Public Safety Advisory Board for the community and the other outlines guidelines for owners of vacant buildings to identify their future plans for the property.
The safety committee Ordinance #1245 will receive it’s first reading at the May 24
th council meeting. The committee is being created to promote communication and collaboration between Lamar’s citizens and the city’s police and fire departments. The board will come into play should the need arise to review un-resolved citizen complaints in these departments after the proper internal administrative process has been concluded. The board can recommend policy changes or new procedures and capital purchases and continue to promote understanding and relationships between residents and the police and fire departments. Stephen Kil has announced his resignation from his position as Lamar’s City Administrator, effective as of the close of business on May 19, 2021. The Mayor, City Council and staff members have expressed their appreciation to Steve for his immediate impact on city operations for the 14 months that he served as Administrator.
Steve is a strong leader and has transformed the way the city operates to the advantage of our community. Under his leadership, the City successfully responded to the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, while maintaining essential services to the community. With his seasoned experience, Kil provided greatly needed leadership in a difficult time for us all. In the midst of this, Steve was a key part of transforming North Gateway Park, the City taking over operations of the Southeast Colorado Regional Airport, attracting new businesses to our community, and much more.
