CHEYENNE The Wyoming State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) has awarded four Paul Bruhn Historic Revitalization Grants to Wyoming businesses.
With funding from the National Park Service, SHPO awarded $350,000 in grant support to help four grantees with their rehabilitation of historic buildings on rural historic main streets and/or commercial districts in Wyoming.
The four grant recipients are Historic First Security Bank Building, City of Rock Springs, Rock Springs; GT Machine Building, GT Machine LLC, Green River; The Weston House, Weston House LLC, Jackson; and Leaverton Building, Leaverton Marquis LLC, Sheridan.

The City of Rock Springs received $81,374 in support of electrical service to the historic First National Bank. The First National Bank, aka First Security Bank, has been vacant since 1980 when the bank moved to a new location. ROCK SPRINGS After deciding to stop pursuing the 2020 special purpose tax initiative due to the COVID-19 pandemic and economic downturn, the Rock Springs City Council is starting those conversations again for the proposed 2022 special purpose tax initiative.
During a special Council meeting tonight, the Council reviewed its 2020 special purpose tax priority list to see if those proposed projects are still viable for the 2022 special purpose tax ballot initiative.
Councilor Keaton West, who is the Council’s liaison on the special purpose tax committee, led the discussion.

“Obviously, it may not set in stone, but the more prepared we are the better,” West said.
