$600,000 Grant Going To Help Dayton s Minority Businesses

Dayton s Minority Business Assistance Center received the largest grant in its history. Earlier this month, Dayton’s Minority Business Assistance Center was awarded a grant for $600,000, the largest grant in its history. The funds come from the Ohio Development Services Agency and the City of Dayton. Sinay Semere, director of the center, said at this week’s Dayton commission meeting that the money will help local, minority-owned businesses stay competitive. “We always talk about aiming for the moon, aiming for the stars, but a lot of times what these businesses are looking for is sustainability, Semere said. So how do we make sure that each business is able to stay afloat, provide support for their employees, and also feed their kids and their children and their household?”

UD proposes repurposing South Park Methodist Church into medical offices

Jul 14, 2021 / 10:29 PM EDT DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) The University of Dayton is working to repurpose the former South Park Methodist Church on South Brown Street into a medical office building. The university’s proposal indicates that the space would be for physical and occupational rehabilitation services, which would be integrated into the existing structure which was built in 1925. At this time the proposal is subject to approval by the City of Dayton. The updated plan also calls for reconfiguring the building’s parking lot and maintaining the old trees along the north property line. It would also expand a buffer between the parking area and residences to the west of the property.

Dayton s Lights in Flight fireworks show draws large crowd

Jul 4, 2021 / 12:24 AM EDT DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – RiverScape MetroPark was packed Saturday night with people excited to watch the City of Dayton’s fireworks display after going a year without them. Organizers said they expected to see thousands of people come out to Lights In Flight Festival to enjoy the food, music and fireworks show. “It’s good to be out of the house and amongst people again,” Dayton resident Chiquita Blanton said. The city of dayton youth services and recreation department was given the go-ahead to hold the festival just several weeks before it was slated to happen. “We’re looking forward to it, we finally got the O.K. maybe 6 to 8 weeks ago to do an event, so we’re thrilled to be out here with everybody back at a live event,” Nick Terbay with the City of Dayton Youth Services and Recreation Department said.
