North Central RC&D along with MNNRD completed a Nebraska Dept of Energy and Environment Tire Amnesty Friday afternoon. The goal of 300 ton was reached mid-afternoon. Kim Burge, Executive Director for RC&D reported 221 loads of tires were hauled to the City of Valentine property East of the high school on Thursday and Friday. Burge reported that “The event was a huge success. And they probably could have asked for a 400 ton limit on the Tire Amnesty Grant. The last Tire Amnesty for Cherry County was held in 2004.
Resource Management of Bronell Kansas, was awarded the contract to haul the tires to their new destination. They provide all loading, transporting, recycling, processing and disposal of tires involved in this clean-up. They recycle any tires that are able to be utilized for the available markets – this includes feed bunks, sidewall rings for silage cover weights, and Alternate Daily Cover for landfills. Tires will start moving out this Wednesday.
