Usually at this time of year, coworkers, family and friends don their sparkliest outfits and gather to indulge in a holiday drink or festive meal at a local venue, often at a table or private event space booked weeks in advance.
Instead, December 2020’s widespread COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations have led to a near-statewide stay-at-home order, as well as a provisional end to outdoor dining that has restaurants fighting to survive. Berkley, Ferndale DDAs continue campaigns to help local businesses

BERKLEY/FERNDALE The downtown development authorities of Berkley and Ferndale are looking to continue their shop local campaign pushes through the end of December and beyond.
Berkley’s DDA started in December its MerriMonth campaign, featuring several events meant to gather participation from residents and businesses.
This includes a Holiday Window Display contest, which runs until Jan. 18. Participating businesses are decorating their windows and residents can visit downtown Berkley’s Facebook page and vote in the photo album.

This year’s holiday show at Fourth Street Fine Art is aptly named: “Home Is Where the Art Is.” The collection features works as eclectic as the artists who make up the cooperatively owned studio. Celena Peet’s mixed-media fiber art hangs beside new oil paintings by Prabin Badhia and Valerie Sobel’s abstract acrylic paintings.
This holiday season, people are making their spaces more inviting and functional. Fourth Street Fine Art in Berkeley’s “SoU” District is one of many Berkeley businesses providing art and gifts for people acting on their “nesting instinct” and creating that cozy feeling at home.
