Deterioration of Downtown Topeka Post Office is visible to naked eye

The elevators don t work. The glass in one door of the main entrance is cracked. Three other doors at that entrance don t work. Each bears a sign that says Do Not Use!!! Chipped paint mars the appearance of the ceiling inside the massive limestone structure where the post office has operated since 1933. And that s just the decline visible to the public, which has limited access to the building.  Every time I enter, I marvel at the deterioration that I can see, said Grant Glenn, a board member for the Friends of the Free State Capitol Inc., which owns Constitution Hall across the street from the post office.

It proposes multiple investment strategies for each of the nine sections of downtown: Capitol, Civic, Historic Kansas Avenue, NOTO/River North, Office and Catalyst, River to Rail, River South, Tower and Van Buren. “Public investment based on the last 10‐15 years of visioning is reaching its natural conclusion. And while private investment is still following that vision, the next vision for Downtown is unclear,” the master plan said. “Not because it has few visions, but because there are many visions.
